URGENT APPEAL

This is Mr. Chips - his story follows:-

Mr. Chips and his mother was put in a Free Ad on line site and we saw the advert and offered them a space.........unknown to us Mr. Chips had a very

bad deformed front leg which he has been living with possible from birth!...the owner had done nothing about this - just left it - like he left the mother

to roam with her son when in season as well, but that is another story.....Mr. Chips has seen our vet and this poor dog has got to have his leg removed,

all his ligaments and tendons are shrivelled.. his operation is due on the 31st January and we urgently need funding for this poor dog to enable him to

have a far better quality of life for the future...he is only 12 months old and he has such a wonderful nature....please help Mr. Chips.

*thank you so much*

lst Feb 2012..Mr. Chips has now had his operation and is doing very well....the leg had to be removed:o(

VALGRAYS DISPLAY TEAM HAVE NOW BEEN SELECTED

CRUFTS 2012 VALGRAYS BORDER COLLIE TEAMS

THURSDAY

WENDY NIXON & MAGGIE - BORDER COLLIE This is Maggie, coming up to 4 years old, rescued from a life of breeding by Valgrays BC Rescue. She now lives with Wendy, her best friend, who loves her dearly. She has discovered just how wonderful life is in the big wide world. She should be commended for adapting so brilliantly and for being such a smashing little dog with lots of friends Her favourite pastime's are Agility and food !!! They would both like to say THANKS to Val.

LESLEY MILES & MERRIE - BORDER COLLIE Merri was a stray, picked up in Ireland and when her 7 days in the dog pound were up she was lucky to be transported to England to Valgrays Border Collie Rescue Centre. She had kennel cough at the time, but once she had recovered Lesley adopted her in November 2009 & she settled in straight away with Lesley's other 2 dogs. Merri started competing in agility in March 2011 & gets very excited and noisy. Merri is very fast and does very well when Lesley manages to keep her on the right course. Merri now competes at grade 5. She has also qualified & run in 3 finals.

NICKY DEAKIN & BETTY - CROSS BREED - SMALL Betty is a 2 1/2 year old wire haired terrier. Her owner Nicky calls her an "Urban Street Terrier" as she was picked up as a painfully thin little stray wandering the streets of Croydon. She was rescued from the police pound by Valgrays just before Easter 2010 and came to live with Nicky and her three other rescue dogs that weekend. Despite being quite wild and having no manners or social skills, Betty soon settled in to her new family. To start with she was quite a challenge but with plenty of TLC, training and patience she has now achieved her Gold Good Citizens award and is just starting to compete at agility. Best of all though, she is a real character who loves to run and run and then have lots of cuddles on the sofa! She is a much loved member of the family.

JEFF SASSE & MALLY - BORDER COLLIE Mally is a stunning blue merle and much loved by Jeff, when Jeff had Mally - Valgrays called him Glitter because he just shone Mally has been with Jeff for 18 months . At 10 months old Mally struggled to run properly, however he has worked really hard at his fitness and is not only just starting out on the agility circuit, but also training as a Search and Rescue dog.

SATURDAY

ROSIE POINTER & MISSIE - BORDER COLLIE 'As a rescue Missie came with a few issues but Rosie has been able to channel her constant energy into agility and her behaviour is constantly improving. She has been competing for 2 years and she has been very successful in this short amount of time, although she does believe that one run is never enough and will always try to do it again even after going over the finish line! First time at Crufts with Missie so will be feeling the nerves and she apologises in advance- not for Missie going wrong but for Rosie getting lost on the course! As well as beauty Missie has brains too. She knows that when the 'duff duffs' go at the end of Eastenders she will get her evening biscuit and will be very persistent until she gets it! With a bit more training and TLC we are hoping for a successful 2012 with many wins and not too much sneaking onto my bed'

CHRIS FOSTER & JIMMY - BORDER COLLIE 'Jimmy is a WSD who was found as a stray wandering along the side of a road and taken in by a man who thought he could look after him. However after a few months of keeping him in a shed, he decided that he didn't want him anymore and asked Val at Valgrays to re-home him. He was in a dirty state, smelled and was underweight yet when the pictures appeared on Valgrays website Jimmy's loving face won him a new home and family to love him in November 2009. Chris has been involved in dog agility for the past 20 years, both as an instructor and as a competitor. Jimmy has just completed his first season in agility and gets very excited in the ring. He also enjoys trying to climb trees, chase squirrels and loves playing with his little friend Scruffy the Jack Russell X!!

HEATHER PATTERSON & HOLLY - BORDER COLLIE Holly is 3 yrs old and was adopted from Valgrays 2 years ago. There were 32 applications for Holly so it was an honour to be chosen for her forever home. Holly had been neglected and badly treated, she was very thin, nervous and had a cigarette burn on her head. Now she is happy, confident, sweet and funny, loves her cuddles and lots of attention. She is a real 'miss bossy boots' to our other 2 dogs and has brought so much joy to our home. Holly started agility training last summer and loves it! Today is our first public appearance!!!

MARTINE WATES & MAC - JACK RUSSELL - SMALL Named Big Mac because he was the largest in the litter, Mac fell asleep on my lap when I first met him and has continued with that same, rather laid back, attitude! By his first public appearance at Discover Dogs he had worked out that it was quicker to go under the jumps and around the drop tunnel… Nonetheless, he has realised he quite enjoys this agility lark and has started to make progress (famous last words!)

JUST LIKE TO SAY TO ALL THE VALGRAYS OWNERS, SO MANY OF YOU REPLIED SO HOPEFULLY IF WE GET ASKED TO GO TO DISCOVER DOGS

IN NOVEMBER YOU WILL BE INVITED.......x

WEI WEI

This photo was taken of wei wei on the 4th October....still a little thin but oh. so much better.

SEE HIS FULL STORY ON U TUBE

Wei Wei all snug in his coat and leg warmers.....he is such a brave boy and doing so well, he has a massive fan club and I would like to thank you all for the kind donations which you have sent to him.

NEEDS OUR HELP

19th November 2011 - THE END RESULT....look at him now - a far cry from the day he arrived as a bag of bones and near to death

thank you all so much for your kind donations

towards Wei Wei's upkeep and veterinary care.....he looks stunning now.

This is Wei Wei - he is a 14 week old Whippet/Lurcher type pup, found as a stray in an appalling condition. This little pup had to stay in holding kennels for the legal 7 days - but sadly no one claimed him, his

condition in the kennels deteriorated and when his time was up the dog warden contacted Valgrays to see if we had space as we have in the past helped other strays....of course we said yes immediately....unfortunately for many strays

after 7 days if they do not get claimed or rescue space is not found these poor dogs do get put to sleep....that is fact.......anyway

unknown to us we had no idea that he was in such a bad state - but the morning he arrived our heart sunk - this little bundle of bones arrived with us on Tuesday

23rd August in a terrible state, he was emaciated, dehydrated, weak and had no will to live, he was also very cold, he was put under a heat lamp and had a nice fleece coat put on, we knew that this pup needed

urgent medical attention, we phoned our vet immediately and told him we needed to bring down a very sick puppy, we arrived at the vets with Wei Wei, when we arrived the vet

was horrified at his condition - weighed in at 7kgs (just bones) running alive with fleas, and he was put onto a drip where he stayed for the some hours.....

Urgent funding for dogs like Wei Wei is so important to get them back to health, veterinary care is very expensive so if you feel

you would like to help and support Wei Wei - Valgrays would be so grateful.

Updates will follow with his progress and we are keeping our fingers crossed that he makes a good recovery...for the time being he is having the best care possible and he even had a cuddly teddy sent him in the post today,

so thank you to the person who sent this - this poor little pup needs our help, he did not ask to be born - he did not ask to be dumped.

How could we deprive this poor young dog a chance of life.... he's just a baby and has the rest of his life ahead of him, he could be dead by now.... along with many other helpless dogs.......

Wei Wei deserves every chance of a long/happy life with a caring family...we need to get him better his future is in our hands.

Thank you.

4TH JULY UPDATE: IT IS WITH HEAVY HEART AND GREAT SADNESS "

Unfortunately this little dog is now at Rainbow bridge... She was cared and loved for right to the end of her life

and she raised thousands for the rescue who cared for her."

Rest in Peace

By full permission of Doglost....urgent appeal.

Before and after pictures..update, 03.10.10....this is now Ellie after weeks of love, care and dedication of her carers and all the people who have supported and donated to this wonderful little dog in helping save her life....thankyou.

A DOG has been found with such horrific facial burns that she may lose one of her eyes.

This poor little dog collapsed on a drive in Swansea and thanks to a wonderful rescue then spent the night on a drip at vets. She has acid burns on her face which was done around 5-7 days ago. She is undergoing very intense medical treatment and has a long road to travel. Probably lost sight of one eye and partial of other.

Her face was badly burned and there are burns to her feet and belly. It has burned the skin away. It's red raw. The vets may have to remove one of her eyes because the burns are so bad her vision has been affected. At the moment they are hoping to save the eye, if they can. She is on antibiotics and pain relief, and she has special cream for the areas that have been burned.

She is in safe, loving hands and at the request of her foster parent who are providing her with 24 hours care and attention we will not be divulging her whereabouts at this time. A different home or rescue place would not be in her best interest for the time being. Please rest assured , she is safe. comfortable and loved where she is.

PLEASE DONATE NOW: Doglost have set up a fund for her treatment, if you wish to donate please you can do this either on internet banking or go into a Lloyds TSB and fill in the form. Details are: Lloyds TSB - Acccount Sort Code: 30 95 37 Account No.31140560 Account Name: DL Emergency Funding

Valgrays have offered rescue backup if and when required.

Valgrays 'Photo of the Month' June

This is Bruno - Mastiff - September 2010 I done my normal run to our local pound and collected some dogs which I knew I would be able to home.

When I saw this dog it broke my heart, he was a stray - unclaimed - totally neglected - thin - I knew he would not stand a chance in being homed

and if I left him at the pound in the next few days he would end up in a Black Sack.....so in the van he came back to Valgrays, big dog - god where do I put him, my friend Marian

had a friend who had kennels so off he went to them....over the weeks the kennel owner had a visitor who fell in love with Bruno and decided to give him a

chance - he has had lots of ups and downs and they have kept on trying with him to over come his problems....I just thought that these pictures are what rescue

is all about - these dogs along with many hundreds of bull breeds are now just being distroyed - this is one lucky lad and Valgrays thanks Suzana and family

for giving this dog the life he deserved....from whatever hell he had he is now in a happy caring home....lol....he did eat the inside of Suzana's Warrior and she still

kept him.....WONDERFUL......he must have been hungry!!!

Valgrays 'Photo of the Month' May

Sherborne Vale Dog Training Club presented a wonderful donation to Valgrays on the 9th April 2011

£1,500.00

thank you so very very much....

It was a wonderful day as Sherbourne members had arranged to come to Valgrays to delivery lots of blankets, towels, dog food etc., and when they had emptied the car I said joking Oh. you have now an empty cage!!

A silence came over everyone and they just looked at me as if I had said a dirty word.

Anyway as the day went on we had a lovely lunch on the patio - surround by puppies, dogs and general laughter....unknown to the group one person was casting her eyes over our wonderful Sparky

Well no sooner was she down the lane taking him for a walk and putting him in her car and back down to Somerset he went with Toni for a new life of love - fun - agility.....thanks Toni we all know that Sparky

will fill that gap after your tragic loss of your lovely dog a few weeks back.....Smarty Pants of Valgrays and Toni are now a team - so watch out for this little Blond Dog and owner winning!!!!!

Many photos were taken on the day and we will get the link put on as soon as we know how.....

FOR DOG FOOD, FUNDS, BLANKETS AND SHAMPOO.....many thanks for any help that you can offer.

THE RESULTS FOR VALGRAYS DOG OF THE YEAR.......Before we announce the winners of this years final of the Valgrays dog of the year may we take this opportunity to thank you all so

much for offering homes to the many dogs that Valgrays take in, you will all notice many Valgrays dogs on the circuit and each and every one has had some past, these dogs have now got a super life and forever homes,

so thank you, times are hard for many rescue services but Valgrays are only a small and self supported charity and are always desperate for funding, leads, collars, bedding and food is essential to keep the work going for all the rescue dogs that Valgrays take in…

Veterinary costs are our biggest worry as most dogs have to have treatment, especially vaccins, castrations, spaying, and like the lovely Princess Abbey the cost on her was so high to get her better and the debt to our vets still grow.

This is now 33 years since Valgrays has been up and running and they pride themselves of the work which is carried out, because all Valgrays is doing is helping mans best friend, so for them to help these poor lost soles, lets all try and help

Valgrays KEEP THEIR DOORS OPEN…

Karen and Jimmy at the Filming session.

Update from Karen: 8.3.11....

Hi Val, We have just got back from the NEC and Jimmy was a very good boy, plus he met

and got stroked by Rosemary Conley (the diet woman)!!!

He did some press shots jumping over a crufts banner which are going to appear in the Birmingham Evening News tomorrow and

also on their website, then he was chosen to walk with Rosemary and another woman for a Crufts feature about getting fit with your

dog, which I was told would be part of Crufts on More 4 on Saturday.

He also did some agility which was filmed by ITV and will be on Central News on Thursday.

I was also told by the lady from Woodgreen that they are supposed to be using some of the shots in the Crufts 'Our Dogs' edition.

Everyone who met Jimmy loved him and there was a young lady who I presume was doing the presenting for central news and her dog

and Jimmy had a wonderful time playing together and she complemented me on how well behaved and friendly he was!!

Thank you for letting us go on behalf of Valgrays Rescue

Love Karen & Jimmy.x

To help other dogs like Snowie you can make a donation by using Paypal or sending a cheque made payable to Valgrays Border Collie Rescue, 33 Crewes Lane, Warlingham, Surrey, CR6 9NS.

THE SNOWIE APPEAL UPDATE

You may all remember that Snowie came to us at Christmas time. He was abandoned and was found to be deaf and blind. Massive appeals came from the dog warden for someone to take this dog on and Valgrays were the only rescue centre who offered him a space immediately.Snowie stayed at Valgrays for a few months and then we found a foster home for him we did a huge amount of fundraising for snowie's veterinary care and so many folk put hand in pocket and Snowie's fund appeal soon reach the funds we needed. We wanted him to go to a good specialist and Monica found one - Snowie was on his way to have his eye's looked at via the generous donations you all sent in....THANKYOU.

Eventually when all the funds were raised and Snowie had a consultation with a top eye clinic to see whether his eyesight could be restored or not. One eye was past saving and the other eye had the third eyelid cut back to hopefully restore some of his sight. With the love and dedication of the surgeon, Valgrays and his fosterer Monica, Snowie has gone from strength to strength.

I WOULD LIKE TO SAY A BIG THANK YOU TO ALL OF YOU WHO DONATED!!!

This is an email from Snowie's fosterer Monica giving us an update of how he's getting on:

'Well we saw the surgeon again yesterday and he says the eye has healed ok and no infection in it. It was the first time he had been able to see the full pupil and iris and the eye seems healthy but very small. He says it is in the right place and the sight is as good as it's likely to be now. I find it hard to tell how much sight the boy has but he does seem to be more accurate at avoiding most obstacles and at finding people!

The steroids he has been on for months to prevent the spinal meningitis recurring have just been reduced to one quarter of a tablet a day so the end is in sight now - perhaps another month to get him off them completely. So far so good as the steroids seem to have kept it at bay and the hope is that the cycle of recurrence will now have been broken. He's put on quite a bit of weight with the steroids but not as much as the vet feared, so I hope we can reduce it a bit once he is off them completely.

He weighs about 19 kilos now and is a strong and very active lad! He really is an outdoor dog and spends all the time he can in the garden, rearranging the stones, doing a lot of weeding - he pulls up the weeds growing between the patio slabs and near the path which is quite useful! He also likes to pick up leaves and twigs and take them for a spin.'

SNOWIE ON THE DAY HE ARRIVED AT VALGRAYS

SNOWIE AT HIS NEW HOME

Dougle 109 LBS - MAY 2010

DOUGLE'S WEIGHT

AUGUST 18TH........104LB

SEPTEMBER 10TH....93.5LB

FEBRUARY 2011 ......79LB

He is a much happier dog now and the vet cannot believe the difference in him. He now actually likes going out for walks and he has a sparkle to his eye now.

Still along way to go.......

The only reason I have put this on the site is because - so many people over feed dogs and kill them with kindness - this poor dog has had to suffer so much that we pray that we can help him....

This is Dougle - I thought I would like to tell you about this dog. In May 2010 I was asked to groom a Collie - and this is what was brought in.

We were horrified. He was matted, filthy, fat and could not even walk - let alone stand up to go to toilet. Dougle had been so over fed and was in badly need of a groom to say the least. Marian and myself took 5 hours to sort him out and the owner promised to get his weight down and to groom him and take him for walks....we gave the owner a diet sheet and some diet tins and hoped that he would stick to this diet - for the dogs sake.

The pictures are of Dougle before and after and we were happy in how the grooming went....ANYWAY......

UPDATE ......18.8.10: We received a phone call from the owner can we go and see Dougle - Dougle cannot get up - so we went around to the house and found Dougle on the floor unable to get up....he had put more weight on and was in a terrible state - we rushed him to PDSA and they all agreed what we thought the dog was suffering in the hands of his owner, this dog must loose weight or die.....

So Dougle has come back to Valgrays and we are going to try very hard to get him back in trim - he is only 13 years old so we hope that with care - diet - walks he should hopefully be a better and happy dog.

UPDATE.......28.8.10....LOOK AT DOUGLE WANTING TO PLAY FOOTBALL - HE DID NOT MAKE THE 90 MINUTES!!!!!! - BUT HE HAS MUCH MORE INTEREST IN LIFE NOW....STILL A LONG WAY TO GO...........

ooooooooOOOOoooooooo

Please send in any cute, action or just plain beautiful photo you have of your Valgrays dogs. Long Shot - but can you help identify some Valgrays dogs??

Due to the fact that Valgrays storage area had a huge roof leak when loads of our records were destroyed, we have loads of photos of dogs that we cannot identify.  Most have names, but some are unnamed.  Would anyone who has had a Valgrays dog in years passed (certainly pre 2006) please take the time to check out the very bottom of our '2006 & before rehomed' dogs page.  If you know of the names of any unnamed dogs (maybe you adopted them or know who did) OR if you know the adopted year of any of the other dogs in the unknown section .. please email me and give me the details.  Your help would be so appreciated.  Email: valgrays@hotmail.co.uk
